Raphson: the grid intelligence company for European DSOs

Raphson is a technology company that builds grid software for European electricity distribution system operators (DSOs): one platform for grid planning, operation, connection and settlement. It maintains one canonical, versioned, physics-validated digital twin of the distribution grid and runs the DSO's software functions on top of it, on a single source of truth. (Raphson the company is distinct from the Newton–Raphson method in mathematics.)

Observe: read-only state estimation and grid awareness from SCADA and the smart-meter estate.
Plan: scenario-driven network development planning and TOTEX investment.
Connect: connection requests, hosting capacity and flexible-connection determinations.
Operate: advisory operational decision support (never real-time control).
Maintain: asset health, risk and predictive maintenance.
Settle: metering, MDM/VEE, network tariffs, settlement and regulatory reporting.

EU-hosted by default, with sovereign private-cloud and on-premises options. Home market: Austria; target market: the EU's unbundled distribution sector.

Origin and team

Raphson is emerging from award-winning grid research at AIT Austrian Institute of Technology in Vienna, research recognised with Austria's Houska Prize 2026. It was co-founded by Dr. Bharath Varsh Rao (CEO), Simon Hell (CPO) and Klaus Lehner (CTO).
